- Summary
- Even though Sri Lanka is a signatory ofthe UNCRC, many are the occasions in which it is glaringly obvious that many childrights are disregarded. During the ethnic riots which took place in Sri Lanka, manyallegations were made in reference to the recruitment of child soldiers. The recruitment of children as child soldiers is not the only form in which the liberties ofSri Lankan children are infringed. Many children are brought into suburban householdsas paid labourers and many are compelled as a result of their social and economicbackground to look for further employment and abandon any chance of education. One of 4 studies on child sex tourism in South Asia undertaken by ECPAT International. Objectives of the study were to gather information on the nature, scope and manifestations of child sex tourism in Sri Lanka. Situation analysis based on a 3 month field research including interviews. It analyses children as “at risk”, looks into push and pull factors involved with child sex tourism and recommends preventative measures to be taken.
