- Summary
- The Commission's Directorate-General Justice, Freedom and Security has opened the ‘Community Actions' Call for Proposals 2008 for the European Refugee Fund (ERF) 2008-2013. The deadline for submission of proposals is 23 March 2009. Projects should start preferably by 31 December 2009 and the maximum duration of the projects is 18 months. The indicative budget for this call for proposals is 6,72 million euros. The ERF has been in place since 2000, currently the third generation of the Fund for the period 2008-2013 is being implemented as part of the General programme ‘Solidarity and Management of Migration Flows'. The ERF can finance national actions, transnational actions and so-called ‘Community actions' that are actions of interest to the Community as a whole. The ERF 2008-2013 introduces support for three new actions: capacity building for the asylum systems of the Member States in general; the voluntary efforts of Member States to provide a durable solution in their territories to refugees and displaced persons identified as eligible for resettlement by the UNHCR and the voluntary burden sharing between Member States consisting of the transfer of beneficiaries of international protection from one Member State to another, which grants them a similar protection. The target groups are persons having refugee status as defined by the Geneva Convention of 28 July 1951 or enjoying a form of temporary or subsidiary protection or who are being resettled in a Member State. The documents related to the call for proposals for 2008 with more detailed information on the eligible actions as well as the guidelines are available in the Commission's website.
