Summary
Eachyear, hundreds of thousands of people are recruited and transported for thepurpose of exploitation. The majority are women and girls, and the main purposeis sexual exploitation. This is something many of us already know. But who arethe people behind this kind of criminal activity and how is it organised? Thisand other questions regarding the organisation of trafficking in human beingsfor sexual exploitation are answered in this report. This is the final reportfrom a joint re-search project about the organisation and structure of criminalnetworks involved in trafficking for sexual exploitation in Sweden, Finland andEstonia. The project was carried out in 2007–2008 by the Swed-ishNational Council for Crime Prevention (Brottsförebyggande rådet, Brå) togetherwith the European Institute for Crime Pre-vention and Control (HEUNI), Finland,and the Institute of Law at Tartu University in Estonia.
