- Unaccompanied children come to the EU from all parts of the world and enterthe EU to escape persecution while others are smuggled or, in some cases, arevictims of trafficking, subject to forced prostitution or labour. An increasingnumber are victims of human rights abuses such as child prostitution, streetchildren abuses, child marriages, slavery, and recruitment as child soldiers. Therefore, the main objective of the project, materialised in this publication, isto improve the overall efficiency of national agencies and service providersresponsible for reception, protection and treatment of unaccompanied minors. The project increased the cooperation and information exchange in the areas ofreception, protection and treatment of unaccompanied minors between the sixparticipating EU Member States. This has been achieved through the organisationof exchange visits, enabling involved agencies to gather information andbest practice and to share know-how and management tools.
