- Summary
- The film will follow Chris Payne as he investigates stories of women and children caught up in prostitution’s ‘trade routes’ in Australia, Thailand and Cambodia. Payne is a former Australian Federal Police officer who headed a special task force formed to combat sex trafficking in the mid 1990s. This powerful one hour documentary on the subject of sex trafficking from S.E. Asia into Australia follows a former Australian Federal Police officer Chris Payne, as he investigates the shocking crime of trafficking for prostitution (two young Thai girls trafficked to Australia: Nikki, a thirteen year old Thai girl found in a Sydney brothel in 1995, and, Phuongtong Simpalee, a 27 year old Thai woman who died in custody at the Villawood Detention centre in 2000). For a decade, he's been haunted by the case of "Nikkie", a young Thai girl who was deported after she was discovered working in a Sydney brothel. How did she get there? What happened to her afterwards? Payne follows the trail of evidence from Australia to Thailand. Along the way, he meets the parents of another Thai "sex slave" whose death in an immigration detention centre in Sydney made headlines. Through these stories, Trafficked provides a disturbing insight into the international sex trade.
