Summary
This handbook addresses women who, for various reasons, plan to come to Germanyfor a short or long period of stay.Surely you have heard stories about people who went abroad searching for a betterlife, but instead of finding happiness there have had bad experiences; people, whowere brought there with false promises to work under extremely bad conditions forwhich they got very little or no money at all. Or of women, who were promised a jobin a restaurant or as domestic workers, but upon arrival were forced into prostitution.Or of others, who married a man from the west, arrived in his country but were treated as slaves.Common to all these stories is that people are deceived into a situation, in whichthey are helpless, can be blackmailed and are exploited by others – they have beendeceived, or even trafficked. The best defence against a situation like that is to inform oneself, as completely aspossible, with the necessary legal provisions about the country one wishes to travelto. At least a part of this information is contained in this handbook. This handbookwill also show you what possibilities and rights you have in case you get intodifficulties in Germany and need help.As a considerable number of trafficked people are women – at least as far astrafficking in the sex industry is considered, this handbook addresses them specially.
