Summary
For the nearly 30,000 irregular migrants who have reached the shores of the Canary Islands in small wooden boats so far this year, a countless number have drowned en route. Countering irregular migration into Europe from Africa has become a top political priority for several European countries. IOM plans to launch an information campaign in Senegal warning potential migrants of the dangers of irregular migration.
