Summary
A PICUM Policy Brief: Within the framework of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Decent Work Agenda, the ILO has taken a significant step toward the promotion of decent work for migrants with the publication in 2006 of the International Multilateral Framework on Labour Migration. The aim of this policy brief is to identify the pressures involved in achieving decent work for migrants, building on the ILO Decent Work Agenda. Attention must be given to the important role that decent work can have in promoting more humane conditions for undocumented migrants, and also to the concrete instruments provided by the ILO for this objective and the main difficulties the application of the framework has run into. Therefore this policy brief focuses on the concept of the vulnerability of migrant workers and on the important role that migrants can play for development.
