Summary
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in co-operation with the European Commission (EC), European Parliament (EP) and EU Member States and Candidate Countries, jointly organized a Conference on 18-20 September 2002, addressing the issues of Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings with Particular Focus on Enhancing Co-operation in the Process to Enlarge the European Union. The Conference was organized in the framework of the European Commission DG Justice and Home Affairs's STOP Program, and under the responsibility of Commissioner Antonio Vitorino. Representatives from the countries, organisations and sectors mentioned above, underlined their intention to develop the work against trafficking in human beings on the basis of the draft recommendations, standards and best practices of the Annex to this Brussels Declaration on Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings.
