Summary

On 5 December, La Strada International and PICUM reacted to the draft report for the revision of the Victim Rights Directive prepared jointly by rapporteurs MEP Rodrigues and MEP Zarzalejos.  Reaching out to the Rapporteurs and shadow Rapporteurs and some other MEPs, we highlighted the need for safe and multiple reporting mechanisms, incluidng third party reporting, while calling for a prohibition of the sharing of a person's personal information (e.g. migration status) to the migration authorities.

In the feedback we further welcomed the addition of administrative and legal support for children under recital 8 (amendment 6) and article 9(a) (amendment 39); the specific references to cooperation with non-governmental organisations, such as amendments 11, 53 and 65, and that victim support services are adequately financially resourced (amendment 34) and also strongly supported the rapporteur proposal to include resident status under the personal characteristics of the victim under article 22(2)(a) (amendment 54).

We further stated to regret that no amendments have been proposed to address access to residence permits, while still encouraging the EP members to introduce such a provision, in order to address a key issue faced by undocumented victims  We additionally also asked for a strenghtening of the provision on compensation (article 16), in order to address remaining bottlenecks, in addition to the good provisions added by the Commission.
