Summary

On 25 September, the Dutch Federation of Shelters presented “Safe Future” – a complementary methodology for social workers providing assistance to foreign victims of trafficking and victims of domestic violence, who are uncertain about whether they can stay in the Netherlands. The methodology was developed between May 2013 and September 2014 in cooperation with a number Dutch service providers, including CoMensha/La Strada Netherlands and Animus Association/La Strada Bulgaria. The aim of the methodology is to support social workers in The Netherlands to discuss the topic of return with foreign victims of trafficking and domestic violence and to support their reintegration in the country of origin. The methodology provides concrete tools for social workers on how to raise the topic of return and how to discuss different future options with the clients. It also contains a “social map” of service providers in different countries and the return and reintegration services they offer for victims of trafficking and domestic violence.
