- The report concludes a six-year process (2006-2012) of developing and implementing transnational referral mechanisms (TRMs).
The newly published report provides an overview of the forms and tools of transnational cooperation used in cases of human trafficking in the SEE region with a view to further enhancing their implementation within and beyond the region. Although the report specifically targets South-Eastern Europe, it also serves as a useful tool for all countries that have embarked on the process of developing a transnational referral mechanism (TRM) of trafficked persons or which are considering doing so in the future. Practical advice on how to design and implement a functioning TRM can be found in the many recommendations that this report provides. Furthermore, the findings of the report are fully in line with the provisions of the newly adopted European Union Strategy towards the Eradication of Trafficking in Human Beings 2012-2016, in which the establishment of Transnational Referral Mechanisms is highlighted as one of the top priorities. By summarising the lessons learned in the process of developing TRMs, this report is a forward-looking document and may serve as an inspiration for moving from theoretical frameworks towards the implementation of concrete actions to further improve the referral of trafficked persons in a wider European context. - Related documents
