- Summary
- ECPAT UK continues to resolutely believe that safe accommodation encompasses more than the mere provision of adequate placements; it also includes, within that response, consideration of the child's physical, psychological, legal, language and security needs. Importantly, it must include the child's own perception of safety. The 10 principles are intended to be used together as a complete set rather than individually or randomly. Selecting only one or two principles and using them in isolation will not provide the same quality of care. ECPAT UK recognises that local authorities have a duty of care and the legal responsibility to look after separated children. Caution should be used when engaging with agencies or organisations using any of these principles in isolation and promoting it as their safe accommodation model.
