Summary
The purpose of this document is to, first, provide an overview of the mandates of the member organisations of the Inter-Agency Coordination Group against Trafficking in Persons (ICAT). These organisations collectively represent the relevant United Nations agencies and other international organizations involved in combating human trafficking. As can be seen, a great deal of work is currently done within the UN system to address multiple dimensions of trafficking in persons - what is also evident is the potential for a more comprehensive and effective response from the United Nations organisations and their partners. Second, the document provides, from key agencies, an analytical review of where the international community now stands 10 years on from the adoption of the Trafficking Protocol. Focusing on their particular fields of work, these contributors provide an analysis of the gaps in the current knowledge of and response to trafficking in persons and the related priorities for action. Finally, the document provides a view to the future with the proposal by particular agencies of concrete recommendations for future action.
